Trend Maven: Special Feature
One of the things I love about the Design World is that it attracts creative people who are thirsty to stay current and up on what’s what around the world. This always includes knowing the latest in pop culture, breaking news and trends, color, pattern and what cities are hot for design, clothes, food and events. We love magazines — paper and digital – and we love trend reports and trend books and the people who create them.
One such person who has been a Maven of all things trend wise is Margit Zsedely. Currently operating her independent Trend Consultancy in New York, she consults on design direction, colors, fabrics, fashion, lifestyle and how brands can position themselves in the market place.
Margit has the gift of being able to distill trends that are right for each customer down to the key elements, key words and key colors. After years in the business, she sees things clearly and elegantly and is not likely to suggest the same concepts to two or more customers.
She also works with Trend Pulse, a subscription based trend service creating printed materials as well as on-line subscriptions affordable for independent designers and small businesses, as well as large design houses. Their materials include color, textiles, lifestyle and thus home. They report on all of the important shows in Europe, the UK and New York so that if you can not be there yourself, they are there for you. And it is worth much more than the price of a trip but may actually cost you less.
I have been in the design business since 1980 and there are a few people I rely on for their knowledge and their generosity in sharing that knowledge. Margit is on of those people and I am more than pleased to feature her in Patterns.
