Sometimes Design Inspiration comes in the form of Designers. In the case of Yacht Interior Design, this is true of one Sylvia Bolton, a successful Designer of Interiors for power and sailing yachts.

With a design studio in Seattle on West Commodore Way (which is on the waterway near the Hiram Chittendon Locks) Sylvia creates beautiful, functional, properly scaled interiors and outdoor rooms for yachts from 40 feet to 140 feet. She also creates yacht logos and scripts for transoms and for embroideries that embellish pillows, napkins, throws, chair backs and other textile products on yachts.

Originally from Bulgaria, with formal training there and in Italy, she has a fine art background and a sculptural sensibility. Sylvia’s customer service is professional and direct — and it is creative. She is a skilled painter of renderings and a talented colorist. She helps clients see her concepts even if they are not visual thinkers.

Amazingly, using both hands, she can draw and color a rendering “upside down” to her but properly oriented and scaled for her customer seated opposite her at a table! Amazing talent!

When I recently asked Sylvia what her favorite aspect of nautical interior design is she responded that her greatest satisfaction is seeing her clients enjoy the spaces they develop together. Her strong conviction is that function must be beautiful. Her focus is to make sure they go “hand in glove” and are affordable for the project being created.

Interestingly, many yacht owners find that Sylvia’s design solutions for them exceed their expectations and they ask her to create spaces for them in their homes or planes. You can see more of her work in yachting magazines like Yachts International and on her website. www.sylviabolton.com
